Black ink, white paper
The alphabet became grey
And hope bled away

Say What
My daddy said,
“Girl, you’ll catch more flies with sugar than vinegar.”
I took it as gold.
Here I am pushin’ fifty and it’s only now I see.
Flies? My sugar? Hell no.

Let go
The keys you think you have
The leash you think they have
Let go
Out there
Is freedom-swirled new air
Is glory -you’re its heir
Out there
Apple
Look into the sea
Offer honesty
Tell me how
Glass and fire and endlessness
Is anything more than nothing
Mattered
I speak of you in the past tense
My past
It is where you wanted to be
I spoke to me in the future
My present
It hurt too much, how could it be
I speak to this moment, present
My future
It is this now, not what could be
Final Fall
trouble walked in
The popular, colorful kind
The cowardly kind
The kind too unkind to call ahead
Or wear a capital T, so at least you know
Now, except for the fallen and frozen leaves
The Heart has no proof
For trouble won’t Tell
It’s The end
Invisible Ink: A Haiku
We could only dance
My hair drawn back, eyes upward
Sketched my dreaming pen
Vinegar: A Haiku
Sugarless I’m not
But were I to pretend it
Oracle, portend….
As we forgive
Who am I
But plank-eyed
But-for-the-grace-of-God-go-there I
I’m in need
A weak-kneed
So each day I confess on my knees
As I see
With mercy
Giv’n to me, I send it back to sea
Extinct
But for the little ones, the crawly things, the butterflies
There are no ideals
No rooms left to house whimsy
And not enough hours remain to show vulnerability
To the tall trees
