Brother Blend
Coffee, simple coffee
I do not ask for more
Not a finer blend than my nemesis
Nor a larger cup than my neighbor
I can cultivate the fruit on my own
If the sun is not stolen away
I can create a rich roast to crush
If my body is not relegated
Conversations we could have
My brother
Would I pour for you
Would you pour for me
Would we meet for coffee each day
Coupling
Something about 6 thirty
A.M.
Coffee calling
Birds beckoning
You
Something about 10 minutes
Absent-mindedly
Clutching comfort
Begin burning
Me
Song at the ready
Matchstick in hand
In harmony
Afire for it
We
Stirred: A Haiku
Now to taste our storm
To embrace it while looking
In eachother’s eyes
Out
Coffee
Proper
As my eyes burn from the lies of you, I properly sip my coffee, I wait, watching the heat of the Day take its toll, telling the truth you will not say despite that You see, I see, We see, the shingles cracking, the black tar melting, the ol’ roof caving in on itself and the stupid birds calling this hole home.
Continuous Coffee: A Haiku
Until eight-thirty
Else when my cup is emptied
I shall keep breathing
Sway
Kindness is why the World
Rises or falls
Thrives or survives
Why after the fairy tale ends
We walk
Together or apart
Kindness, it means the world
Kindness is whether
I serve you donuts
You serve me coffee
Whether when the sun dips low
We rest
Fine or fitfully
Kindness no matter the weather
No need any more
Wishing, or worse
A third arm
Ambient days and nights every time
Perfect Puerto Rican coffee
Every time
Porch swings that don’t creak
A squirrel who’ll stay long after lunchtime
And you
Open eyes forbid this
But I still break for magic
