Smiling

Tending to the dream
From deep in the dark

Remembering the breath
Stolen away

Hoping much too hard
To bring you to life

Smiling nonetheless
For that’s what you loved

Blue-Grey Tee

You didn’t mind and I didn’t matter
I’d be your sounding board in exchange
For stolen glances at God’s handiwork
How you cared to steward His chiselings
I studied in the moment of the dream
All

The whole time, damned to awaken
But I, glad for the dream
Said I love you
Sang a song
And at once
Arose

Those Colors Again

Stairs
Steps
Stacks of grand books
Her hands reaching out
Sometimes there’s someone to grab them

White
Brown
Body unclothed
Her tears crying out
Never there’s anyone aware

Flying
Soaring
Feet on the ground
Her mind reaching out
Always there’s nobody who’ll speak

Headache

All the running
And I don’t know where I was going with this
But
It seemed important enough

Grace then woke me ’round mid-nite
From the dream
That was someone else’s
And giving me small rest

We Drifters

Unconscious now
But if you
Come
Closer
Drifting off with me
I’ll tell of the dream
Of the contrast between
The ambient warmth
And
The silencing chill
The pressure
Oh
The release
The innocent question
Blink
The you-know-what-you-did

dream up

The thing about heartstrings
They do what they wish
Without warning
Ignoring caution
And against one’s will
They rise to the skies
Like vapor
Or silver skyscrapers
And play out
Some symphonic plan
