“Independence Today” -by Lisa Mae
Happy birthday
On this eve
America, lovely and tall
You will always be my Home
You are what delights me so
America, tho’ gone astray
I believe in you
I ask of you
America, make things right
States of America: A Haiku
The oppressed dreaming
Let’s become the oppressors
Unite around this
Independence Day: A Someday Haiku
Hearts, free…exploding!
But wouldn’t it have been fine
This Someday, with you?
Independence
Prey tell, the cause of our pain?
The fear of not living?
Or living again?
Query, the point of our want?
Desire for the more?
Disdain for the got?
This Is July
Commemorative colors
Spinning, lighting up night’s sky
Birthday candles, Birthday candles
Bringing tears to eyes
All-Stars, will you teach us
What teamwork is all about
While we wander in the mountains,
Reflecting lakes up in the clouds
We move just a touch slower
Its the heat -we don’t ask why
Time to take off shirts
After all, this is July
