Before You Kiss

Pretend you’ve a past together
For we’re all made of the exact same starlight stuff

We share an ilk
We each have hopes

Pretend that time stood still on your best schoolday
That you mean to steal a kiss before the bus departs

That Summer is on the horizon
All is right and you can do no wrong

Launch

A resounding “Atta Girl!”
He proclaimed today
Looking East from the mountains
He saw I’d be okay

In his Rocky Mountain drawl
He quothed from afar
Calling out to let me know
He saw a still rock star

Backroads

There’ll be no bicycle parked outside my heart
At your disposal

Your hands are unclean
Your feet too unwilling
Not enough strength in your lungs

To ride with my whimsy

I backtrack along backroads that lead to sunflower fields
And I’ve seen your eyes fall short of reverence

I offer too often, too much — my invitation time and again to set a spell

For the sunlight’s forever waning
It’s a light we need to follow
Can’t I wish to hold each photon with you?

Over

There was that night
An only slightly dimmed light

There was that song I sang to you –I believe you sang back– about being crazy ‘ bout you
An ode I’m inclined to replay over and over and over in my mind, in hopes that I’d grow tired

There was that us celebrating love
An honest Thanksgiving

Fenced

He never his used looking glass
To further contemplate
The diamond in the rough he held
Failed to appreciate

Her too-many facets
Her intellect and whim
All for his sense of pridefulness
What brilliance, lost on him

This woman’s worth upon his life
Her presence in his home
The lack of foresight in him then
Brings his heart now to roam

Lift Off

Become again the albatross
Wings spread, but grounded

Some will stand, stunned
Warmed and smiling
‘Neath the light reflecting
Safely from your feathers

Others will stare, studying
Threatened and deciding
Comfort zones, they
Too far from your glory

Such allegorical drag!
Let it be your lift

The Ask

I know what I want
Should I first ask to depose the light?

Let it chase me round and round
Me — play hard to get?

But at this point in human history
For what purpose?

With time unubiquitous
If not now, when?

With stars and firmament acting finite
To what end?

My You

This is my why
Forever the reason why
I wanted
I wanted us

Light
Together
Nights together
As Together People do

The hour didn’t matter
Just when midnite rolled around
I could reach and humbly find
My You
