Function and Form

Maybe I had to fall
Probably I needed the thief
Or the cries of the world
Sound too distant to me

I’m sure my role was to sink
Made for the dark of the deep
So when at last I ascend
I’ll know to bring others with me

“Believe”

I remembered I went and read to her
Her Cinderella stories that ruined my mind
But made hers fly

I believed
My presence, my words, my faith
Held power

I was taught to believe,
And I damn well believed
Their poison would bring her back

She’d remember
Wake up
And fly back to me

“Believe”
A whisper to me in the mid of Night
Made my feet fly

I believed
I knew that this faith
Held power

Out the door
To his side
To tell of The story

How we need not fear
He’ll wake up
He’ll fly back to us

In each moment
It is said
Possibility lives, breathes and flies

I must play The Realist
And tell the Story
That holds power

You can’t claim
A single truth
Unless you first Believe

To you then, license inures
Hope wakes up
And flies back to you

Alicia

Freckle-faced girl in the rainbow coat
Pretty
Riddled
Porcelain heart

You other girls with the unkind curls
Why, why
Won’t you
Make her a part

She is my friend and she shares her coat
What cost
You cause
Her eyes cast down

She found her smile in another place
My friend
She’s gone
A foreign town

Open Window

I see the bricked wall
Mortared with steel
You guide my eye to a secret passage

I see a wasteland
But when I kneel
You speak of wonderland waiting for me

I see starvation
Stones for my meal
You reach out to me with my daily bread

I see the grey rain
No hope to feel
You fly white flowers in front of my eyes
