Italics Mine

I stand by my back-then words

The sight and the touch of a fiery hand

Brushed against the surface of my straight-from-only-God-knows-where intuition

Reaching out, did you foresee -as you seem to be able- my fumblings and follies

I choke when I taste and gasp when I smell your handiwork against my handiwork

With incredulous eyes, stunned heart and still-shallow breath, again I say

“Oh my God…oh my god….”

Route 66

Confused by contrasts
The world may tilt its head
And wonder whether
Our will is pure
Or has lost its way

He’s not taken aback
And cannot manufacture concern
If in one breath
Lungs profess His glory
Then in the next
They exhale and entertain
With dialated pupils
Deeper sighs
Sharper canines
Deltoids more deeply defined
Electric blush polka dots

And if with wanderlust
Our heartstrings conspire
To wrangle and lasso
The Auroras
The source of saffron
The Silk Road
The Amazon
Route 66
And all things in between
He won’t show surprise
He knitted that there

Grandiose Giggle

Some book or some manual somewhere
Warns of delusions as grand
As the ones
I believe
I’m OK
With the knowledge

There are sunrises refusing to hustle
And sunsets equally reticent
But for my permission and wink

Rivers refuse to empty to sea
And winds wait in luffed sails
Lest my right hand’s at the helm and my left holds the lantern at 2:44 in the morn’

Artist’s notes will not paint
Or give wings to the heart
‘Til I dream that our feet give them grace to dance with

The Firework’s grand finale
Along with The Checkered Flag
Pause
For my nod
Yes
I am grand

Dream Car

In case you’re not mine
Or time steals you from me
I’ll say now what I know I’d say then
My god you are hot
With your grey and red lines
And the virtues still black on your skin

That muscle back there
Makes me wild like back then
Still a classic -your drawl and your pen
Oh the years and the day trips
Fast curves and near misses
And the danger again and again

I hope that you’ll find
That I made the right choice
That no restoration was needed
We ride fine me ‘n you and our rockin’ pit crew
Be damned rules of the road never heeded

Sugar Sing

Sugar sing
To me
Not only of the Day’s news
No

Confidently place in my hands the pirate’s map of you

Trust me with all that I can know of Treasures you’ve left everywhere really

OK -little by little then….

You Name This

I plan to conduct an experiment
And I hypothesize
That I can conduct The symphony
Of music to the skies

After which, I’ll conduct The lightening
-its electric gaze I’ll hold
Conduct then I will The interview
Of a soul centuries old

The music, The lightening, The interviewee
They function together as one
Can you imagine the final scene
As they masterfully come undone

G’day

I love you
The clouds coming uninvited to a sky distinctly my own

You bother me
The never-knock hellos and the after-the-fact goodbye kisses

You should know
The daytime dances and nighttime sunshowers are all I desire and seek

You silly clouds; I love you, you bother me -you should know
