Go, Team, Go

If you started a sports team, what would the colors and mascot be?

I once co-organized a sports team and our colors were iridescent — shifting from rosé to blue. Our mascot was a mystery.

“What time is it?” I dared not ask — for, the shadow was skulking in fit

“How much will this cost?” the shadow’d demand — never once seeing all that I’d lost

Across the horizons of vintage floorboards, the Sun still shines, happily

Time over there and Loss over here, each our own cheerleader, sadly

His Sport

Ask ye I, Shame
What is it you want of sport with me

A story to tell
This cloddish girl

Oh! How she fell for parallel universe truths

A jovial tale
Where thee, with all thy dark proclivities
Shouldst mute and suffocate her good heart?

Baseball

I don’t want to live this yet, Springtime

For, every time the birds and bees and all manner of creatures and things -good sports and bad- migrate back

There’s the media storm, the tough talk, the hype, the great expectations placed in the wrongest of wrong places

So I will close my eyes and wait, Springtime
