We Were Kind

There is that ocean.
Much may be said in it.
But if waves crash,
the sun sinks low
and every new moon refuses to shine,
all I’ll care about is what That Ocean says to Me.

If we only ever gaze at each other,
tell me I’m beautiful, because I am.
If our feet meet and we swim,
tell me I taste delicious, because I do.

If on that ocean’s shores I slip,
and fall to my fate,
my soul
is old enough
to own it’s errors.

And may Mother Earth say that I’m kind.
