Coupling
Something about 6 thirty
A.M.
Coffee calling
Birds beckoning
You
Something about 10 minutes
Absent-mindedly
Clutching comfort
Begin burning
Me
Song at the ready
Matchstick in hand
In harmony
Afire for it
We
Baldpate
Here we sit excitedly
Free cookies!
Average age of “we’ll-never-tell”
Scratching our thinning crowns
Picking crumbs out of our aged cleavage
Just happy to be together, talking too loud
For our hearing is aided, these days
History and legacy
Is key
Possibilities in Haiku

I Don’t Know Why
But the birds,
Always the tell,
Are leaving
Enough, they’ve said
I see them at a height
At a distance
Unusual for them
But they are willing
To make a go of it
To prove a point
To flee this place
To speak to me
Audibly
I see
Sufferage
This body
The nonsense
It suffers
Oh
So Inclined
Breath like a storm
Birds in the somewhere
Bravely they sing
Watching the thunder
Wondering thoughtfully
Whether they want this
Need
How would the rodents speak
What words would they say
“Yes, you, bring berries to your back yard
And all manner of citrus and apples alike
Fresh, full with fructose, on these barren of days
We planned well for the season
The Winter in May of the Spring
Evidence our good-faith actions
Our holes in diligence dug
Where we find once again, our daily bread
While our feathered Southern friends, oh!
How they need, need, need your hand
We’ll let them dine
We promise”
Rock Dove: A Haiku
Of this I’m certain
The birds are benevolent
They wish to thrill me
Only Now
Just fly on us
The breath and the birds
Breath
Birds
The breath and the birds
Fly on us
Just
We sit, as a cat
